Top of the Island
Uncover the charm of Cabot Trail communities along the Top of the Island...

Top of the Island Locator MapThe Top of the Island www.northerncapebreton.com comprises fishing villages around the Northeastern tip of Cape Breton Island and offers some of the most rugged and untouched vistas along the Cabot Trail. It was along this wild and remote stretch of the coast that sailors met their fate as their ships ran aground near St. Pauls Island, the graveyard of the Gulf.

Along this sea-swept cape, you will find the most northerly settlement in Nova Scotia, Meat Cove. Walk the miles of untouched beaches along Aspy Bay and be awed by the white cliffs of Dingwall. On a hike or bike ride, a keen eye can often spot pods of whales feeding offshore.

Boat tours and whale watching expeditions are popular, showcasing a spectacular variety of whales. The sheltered harbours and beaches offer easy access to swimming and kayaking.

Share a story with the fishers that haul in the lobster, snow crab, mussels and oysters that serve as the main ingredients in the areas cuisine. The evenings offer Celtic and classical music concerts, plays and stories to complete your rich memories of the region. We welcome everyone to paradise, at the Top of the Island.
