Margaree Fish Hatchery Print Version

The Margaree Fish Hatchery has served the Margaree River system since 1902, the second oldest in North America. It is a living museum of the salmon and trout restocking programs of the Margaree River system. The main attraction of the hatchery is seeing hundreds of fish swimming in the many pools on the grounds. The pools contain fish at different stages of their lifecycle.

Although this is largely a self-guided facility, background information can be found at the Interpretive Centre. Visitors can enjoy watching the underwater camera for glimpses of salmon in a salmon pool. The hatchery is operated by a volunteer Aquatic Development Association, of Margaree, (ADAM). The hatchery depends on volunteers and the generosity of the province.
