Cape Breton Highlands National Park
Information Centres open in Ingonish & Cheticamp - 9am to 5 pm until June 22 when the hours increase to 8am to 8pm.
Cheticamp Campground will open on May 20 with full service hook-ups and
Washroom & shower facilities. Ingonish Campground will also open on May 20 with tenting sites and washroom & shower facilities. There are no hook-ups available at this campground. Broad Cove Campground opens on June 23. Trails Spring maintenance work is being done on the hiking trails and they are 'opening' as they become ready. We will have a list for you before the long weekend. Please check with the Information Centres if you have a question about a specific trail.
Exhibits along the Cabot Trail, within the Park, are all open. Washrooms: Most of the washrooms and pit privies along the Cabot Trail corridor are open except at the Lone Shieling.
75 K Challengefor Cape Breton Highlands National Park 75th Birthday Hike 75 km on Cape Breton Highlands National Park trails between May and October, 2011 and receive a commemorative Cape Breton Highlands National Park 75th birthday prize. A great way to kick-start your personal fitness program or simply enjoy the striking diversity of the park at your own pace. Coastline, lakes, mountains, valleys and barrens are yours to explore. Bring a signed list with trail names and dates hiked, to park visitor centres in Chéticamp or Ingonish to receive your prize. Trails included in the final tally must not be repeats of the same trail and must be hiked within Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
A ‘Slacker’s’ Guide - 10 hikes-in-one-day-challenge Earn a Parks Canada water bottle by sampling 10 short trails in one day in a variety of habitats – Acadian, Boreal and Taiga. Easily done at your own leisurely pace if you walk regularly. Bring in a signed list or photo documentation (a photo of you on each trail) along with your park pass to a park visitor centre to collect your prize. with Basket Weaving with Dianne MacEachen.
This is a daylong workshop begins at 9:30 and
ends at 4:30 with an hour for lunch.
The cost of the workshop includes materials to
construct a basket.
Dianne will offer another basket weaving workshop
on June 25th.
