Approximately 1/3 of the Cabot Trail is located within the Park and is well know for it's mountains and ocean scenery.
24 look offs and exhibits are scattered along the Trail to give visitors ample opportunities to pull safely off the road to take pictures, observe wildlife or to learn about a special aspect of the Park.
Did you know that Cape Breton Highlands National Park
covers 950sq km and that 70% of it is Highland Plateau – a flat-topped mountain?
Or that we have a ‘fault’ in the Park that’s about 40 km long?
Or that there are 17 river canyons in the Park?
Or that a 350 million year old rock is considered young?
As you travel through the Park on the Cabot Trail, a dozen colourful roadside exhibits answer these questions and more. Located in large, paved pull offs, the exhibits should not be missed. Each one is different, pertaining to a unique aspect of the Park.
In addition to these ‘drive-in theatres’ we have walking trails that are little gems of knowledge with colourful panels explaining the significance of the area – i.e. the plant and animal life in the Bog or the story of the Jack Pine forest that was born of fire!
